Abstract.

Abstract. This study proposed a structural equation modeling (SEM) approach to test reliabilities with items having ordered response categories. The number of categories in the test can be equal or unequal for all items. A simulation study was conducted to evaluate the performance of this proposed reliability, and compare it with the popular Cronbach's alpha. Simulation conditions include factor structure, the numbers of ordered categories, and the distribution of thresholds of underlying continuous scores. Results indicated that the proposed reliability coefficient performed better than other reliabilities in most conditions. Conclusions and discussion were also provided.
